A closely-spaced pair of ion gauges was built into a single plug to allow point measurement of a detonation wave. The instrument was tested in a detonation tube to obtain the velocity of an oxyhydrogen detonation wave. It successfully detected the passage of charged particles. A cross-correlation technique was used to obtain the velocity and its uncertainty. The result was lower than the velocity obtained from pressure transducers that were spaced further apart.
