An isolator with the cowl convergence angle altering from 0° to 16° and a blockage adjuster installed at the exit to simulate the chocked isolator flow was designed. The investigation of the present isolator configuration via flow visualization and pressure measurement was performed, which was motivated by the need for studying the isolator flow mechanism. Effects of cowl convergence angle and blockage degree were studied experimentally. Both flow visualization and pressure distribution have shown that moderate contraction(β = 4° ~ 12°) provided a favorable entrance condition for isolator starting.
