In the complex flow field containing shock waves such as shock wave/ turbulent boundary layer interaction, the flow structures display three dimensional characteristics obviously. Nano-tracer Planar Laser Scattering (NPLS) is a newly developed visualization and measuring technique to study the complex supersonic flows and was introduced here. Using this technique, shock wave/boundary layer interaction and supersonic flow past a compression ramp at Mach number 3.0 were investigated. It indicated that NPLS technique has a high spatial-temporal resolution and lots of fine flow structures such as shock wave, expansion wave, turbulent boundary layer and slip line can be observed clearly.
