The main condition for the support of climate policies and thus sustainable energy policies is that people are con-vinced that these policies are generally necessary due to the existence of climate change and particularly anthropo-genic climate change. According to our empirical results, the frequencies of climate change skeptics are rather low in Germany and extremely low in China so that this skepticism does not seem to be an important factor for the lim-ited support of climate and sustainable energy policies. In particular, political and ideological orientation are obvi-ously not very important in Germany and thus probably in whole Europe. Our result of the strong relevance of envi-ronmental awareness for ideological differences in the USA suggests that communication and information cam-paigns in order to reduce climate change skepticism could formulate messages around issues other than global warming such as nature, plant, and animal protection.
