Splitting control is regarded as the last defensive line of emergency control in power system to isolate the asynchronous generator groups. Traditional splitting control method, mainly based on principles of relay protection, is a kind of passive, component-level, local, control strategy. In contrast, active splitting control is proposed to realize coordination of decentralized operation of splitting devices according to system real-time state and global control. In this paper, the problem of active splitting control based on the previous research. A practical active splitting control framework is designed and the key problem for active splitting control and the commonly-used techniques are discussed. The proposed method is applied to a typical provincial power grid as a practical example. The case study shows that active splitting control is necessary for this power grid in some specific severe situation and the method presented in this paper is effective.
