With its three frequency bands structure, the new Multi Band Power System Stabilizer (MB-PSS) has recently been associated with the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) in order to improve the power systems' stability. This paper studies the performances of the power regulator (MB-PSS) on the damping of the dynamic multi-machine power system. These performances are compared with two conventional power system stabilizers (C-PSS): The one fed from the speed deviation signal called (dw-PSS) and the second is fed from the acceleration power signal and called (dPa-PSS). A network of nine-bus which is known in the literature as "Western System Coordinating Council" (WSCC) was used to compare the effectiveness of regulators (AVR only, MB-PSS with AVR, dw-PSS with AVR and dPa-PSS with AVR). Following a balanced three-phase fault, the simulation results show the benefit of using MB-PSS which ensures maximum damping is local or interregional modes.
