To explore the characteristics of vehicle VOCs emission, 4 arterials, 6 minor arterials, and 4 branches located in Zhujiang New Town were selected as the representative road network of an urban area. Three traffic states (namely free, congested, and seriously congested) on different road types (namely major arterials, minor arterials, and branches) throughout the network were chosen by Floating Car Data. Localized emission factors were obtained from MOVES and modified according to local parameters. Traffic volumes of different roads were detected by the SCATS system of Guangzhou and high resolution emission inventories under the predefined traffic states were developed. The results showed that the traffic states of each road type fluctuated throughout the day while congestion frequently occurred on network branches. Though the branches were shown as having higher emission factors, the overall emissions on branches were less than major arterials and minor arterials.
