This research was developed with the purpose of increasing the highway operation safety, through a series of geological and geotechnical characterization tests of a case study. Field tests and land survey were executed to identify the geometry and the local materials by Standard Penetration Tests associated with rotary drilling tests and indirect methods of investigation (geophysical), searching for a better spatial detail of the slope. In situ permeability tests were executed and soil samples were collected for laboratory tests, both at the superficial layer of the slope. Suction tests by the filter-paper method determined the unsaturated soil behavior through its soil-water characteristic curve. Laboratory tests and permeability performed in situ with the colluvium have demonstrated consistent results comparing with field investigation and also with the characterization of this type of soil.
