The performance analysis for IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol has received much attention. Thereby many analytical methods of IEEE 802.11 have been proposed in recent years. All these analytical methods can be divided into two parts. The first part is the model of the binary exponential back-off algorithm, which is used to calculate the transmission probability and the collision probability. Another part is the derivation of the theoretical performances, such as throughput and average delay. In this paper, considering saturation traffic in single-hop wireless networks without RTS/CTS exchange, we will introduce various Markov chain models and non-Markov methods at first. We analyze these models and their corresponding collision probability. In the second part, a system state model is proposed to deduce the analytical performances. The simulation results validate the analysis of the different back-off algorithm models, and show that the proposed model can predict the throughput and average delay accurately.
