Online Prediction of Freeway Time-Dependent OD Flow: A Case Study of Jiangsu Province in China

The accuracy and efficiency of TDOD online prediction have significant impacts on the application of a DTA model. This paper aims to propose the online prediction of time-dependent OD flow for the freeway network based on freeway toll collection data. The number of freeway toll stations in Jiangsu Province is 316, and the total travel demand is around 1 million vehicles per day. The requirements and characteristics of the time-dependent OD for the online application is discussed first. Then, the prediction of time-dependent OD flows in previous and future time periods are proposed respectively. Finally, the actual time-dependent OD flows are utilized to validate the prediction results. The validation indicates that the proposed model can predict the time-dependent OD flow with high accuracy and efficiency, contributing to the online application of a DTA model.
