Due to different reasons, most of the recent research work is based on the modeling and simulation. Power systems is not an exception, therefore, electrical equipment have to be modeled to simulate the electrical networks. Lightning arresters are essential part of these networks especially in the high voltage range. Modeling of lightning arresters according to different references is based on inductors, capacitors and nonlinear resistors. Dealing with these components results in integral differential nonlinear equations. Difficulties of these equations drive most of the researchers to use commercial package like EMTP and ATP as an alternative. This paper presents a straight forward method to solve these equations numerically based on particle swarm optimization technique. The simplicity of the proposed method facilitates the investigation of the relative importance of each element in the model.
