This study focuses on analysing the aerodynamic response of electro-active membrane wings under step input conditions. The membrane wings are manufactured using 3M VHB~(™) 4905 and tested at 0% pre-strain which confers them a considerable range of possible deformations. Synchronous dynamic load measurements, PIV measurements and electric power consumption measurements of a perimeter reinforced electro-active membrane of AR=2 were conducted in a low speed wind tunnel at 9.4 m/s and a Reynolds number of 62,000. The study focuses on providing an in-depth analysis of the aerodynamic behaviour of electro-active membranes when a step up and a step down input of 10 kV is applied during steady-state flow conditions.
