Conclusions: In this study, we co-cultured ECs and SMCs to model different post-implantation scenarios and studied platelet interactions in terms of activation and IL-8 expression. Our future studies will include flow cytometry analysis of PAC-1 to determine platelet activation. Also, the cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern platelet interactions will be assessed by studying the expression of VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 in ECs and α-actin in SMCs. The release of CD40L, MMP-2, PDGF by platelets will also be determined.
