Due to extensive population growth, the biggest challenge faced by many cities is traffic management and control. In India, traffic accidents have devastated more than 150,000 people every year. That's approximately about 400 deaths a day. During the peak hours of the day, about 40,000 liters of fuel are wasted in traffic jams in most urban cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai etc. Even the waste of time in traffic signals, unnecessary fuel waste and air pollution are serious effect-causing challenges in our daily lives. Using IoT-based techniques, we can reduce the current challenges with the prior knowledge of the traffic information. Hence this research work is focused on the designing and developing of a real-time traffic monitoring system using the Internet of Things (IoT) and remote sensing technology. This system is simple and easy to implement, reduces the accident rate, waiting time for traffic and also fuel consumption.
