High Efficiency Closed Loop Boost Inverter for Standalone Power Applications

Rapid developments in the field of renewable energy sources and decreasing cost per unit poses a good viable alternative to the traditional grid connected power which is hard to reach in remote areas. This paper presents a novel high efficiency boost inverter topology with a closed loop control system to be used for standalone power applications. The reported literature so far employs complicated algorithms to convert the energy stored to domestically usable AC power with high quality. In this design we have shown how a microcontroller can be used with minimal hardware to put together a high efficiency closed loop boost inverter and provide good quality of power under all load conditions leading to exceptional advantage over the conventional inverters today available. We have used here a voltage feedback mechanism which shall directly control the SPWM output. This helped us achieve voltage regulation and low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
