This paper presents work on the design and development of prototype models for wireless smart fertilizer dispensary systems with the help of ZigBee and GSM technology. The field station prototype is developed with the help of ATMEGA 328 based embedded platforms, four solenoid valves to control three different fertilizers and water with their associated driver circuit, ZigBee and GSM module. A MATLAB based GUI platform is designed to interact with a field station wirelessly using 2.4 GHz ZigBee transceiver from the remote monitor unit. A GSM mobile can also be used as a wireless remote control to operate the solenoid valves as well as to receive various event notifications from the field. The system offers a duel wireless flexible mode to operate the valves for fertilizer delivery. To optimize the power level solar panel and DC to DC converters is used. The system can be operated automatic and manual mode. All the field event can be monitored in the base station for further statistical analysis. Intelligent algorithms also embedded to reduce the water losses and over watering. Overall the system provides cost-effective, power optimized and flexible fertilizer dispensary system integrated with drip irrigation system.
