This paper presents two methods of coupling both RF (400KHz) and microwave (5.8GHz) energy into a hollow coaxial transmission structure for use in electrosurgical applications. The ability to deliver RF and microwave energy either independently or simultaneously from one applicator offers clinical advantage. Designs are presented and finite Element Analysis using CST Microwave Studio gives positive simulation data. Testing of one of the structures is presented and shows correct operation of both impedance transformation and isolation of the hollow channel access port.
