Struvite harvesting is considered not only to recover the valuable nutrient from wastewater but also mitigate the side effect of bio-P process such as nuisance struvite formation or deterioration in sludge dewaterability. Development of air enabled struvite recovery model was attempted in the GPS-X™ platform. CO_2 stripping was modeled using a modified oxygen transfer model. Struvite formation in the AirPrex process was modeled by using empirical K_(sp) values for struvite. With the site-specific calibration, it is possible to mechanistically simulate the AirPrex process and its downstream impact.
