We have demonstrated the ability of HBOs to survive and differentiate into both hepatocytes and cholangiocytes in vivo. This provides a new model to study human liver development from hepatoblasts and is an important step toward building fully functional human liver tissues. Future work will focus on promoting maturation of differentiated cells and probing the in vivo signaling directing cell fates.
