Curb-cut inlets are a common type of inlet used to convey stormwater runoff to green stormwater infrastructure installations like bioswales. Their hydraulic properties affect the overall stormwater management performance of a site. The project team conducted field-based assessments of curb-cut inlet efficiency at seven bioswales in New York City to evaluate the impact of factors including rainfall intensity, size of tributary area, street slope, road condition, and apron slope. Inlet percent conveyance, the fraction of flow approaching the inlet captured by the inlet, decreases with increasing rainfall intensity and hydraulic loading ratio regardless of ponding in the bioswale when the ponded depth of water was less than 7.6 cm (3 in) above the inlet invert. Apron slope was found to have a strong positive correlation (statistically significant at the 0.01 level) to percent conveyance. The importance of good construction practices in installing curb-cut inlets is highlighted by this finding.
