摘要

Nearly all surface treatments (superficial coating) with aggregates (clear stone) in Quebec are made with unwashed stones. In this context, the use of conventional CRS-2 as a binder is not optimum because it tends to bind fine particles thus providing only a wetting and partial bonding of the stone. An HFMS-2 class asphalt emulsion has been developed for the Quebec context. This emulsion offers excellent wetting, which has the advantage of sticking the stone, regardless of the amount of fine particles. It has been three years since pavements made with surface treatment incorporating aggregates and HF type emulsions have been used in Quebec. The many projects are successes and the technique is now well mastered. The granular matrix of the chip seal already shows after a month a good entrenchment and great wear resistance. The robustness of chip seal with HFMS-2 is discussed.
