A short expansion chamber in a duct acts as a resonator. Even when the chamber becomes axially very short resembling a slit-like expansion, resonator's property is maintained as a side branch. In this study, this type of very short expansion is placed in a rectangular duct. The sound transmission properties of several types of expansion, of which each side of the duct is expanded arbitrary in one axial position of the duct, are examined experimentally and summarized for the duct aspect ratio and the depth of each expansion. In addition, for giving an intuitional comprehension, some results of numerical calculation are also presented.
