Advanced noise abatement approach procedures reduce the noise impact on communities surrounding airports by enabling aircraft to fly at higher altitudes and lower thrust for longer than standard approaches and existing noise abatement procedures. The parameters that describe this procedure include the initial conditions (speed and altitude) at the top of descent, the altitude at which the thrust is reduced to idle, and the speeds at which the aircraft flaps and gear are extended. In combination, these variables jointly affect the noise and the throughput. This paper presents a parametric study of the open loop ANAAP. The results show that by designing the procedure to limit the time that the aircraft operates in open loop, the robustness of the procedure to system uncertainties is maximized.
