The dominant source of aerodynamic noise for the automobile engine cooling fan is dipole due to the unsteady loading on the blade. The time signal of the surface pressure in real situation is measured using small pressure transducer that is flush mounted on the rotating blade. The measured surface pressure data are used as an input noise source distributed on the blade for far field noise prediction code. It is possible to visualize noise source on the blade by combining surface pressure measurement with noise prediction code. The modified fan and shroud shows an improved performance. The modified fan has a flow dispersion region at the middle of the blade to reduce pressure fluctuation concentration. As a result both discrete and broadband components of noise are reduced significantly.
