Concrete material is one of the most widely used materials in the construction industry. Influenced by the global ecological construction, the green and sustainable development of construction industry has been concerned. Energy conservation and emission reduction of building materials is the focus of researchers. In China, the design of buildings is based on strength, and the durability is a little less important. Due to the lack of consideration about durability in the design of the building, the actual utilization rate is low, and the maintenance cost is high in the later period. The economic loss is incalculable. At this time, concrete admixtures emerge at a historic moment, among which air-entraining agents attract much attention because they can improve the workability of concrete and enhance the freeze-thaw cycling resistance of concrete. This paper analyzes air-entraining agent rationally and objectively by studying the function mechanism, the classification of varieties, the actual effect and application of it. It is hoped that theoretical research can guide practice, and the results of practice confirm the theoretical analysis, thereby changing the one-sided understanding of air-entraining agent in the construction field and promoting the comprehensive and extensive application of air-entraining agent in China.
