ARPES studies of the superconducting gap in high-temperature superconductors

Abstract: Using high resolution angle-resolved photoemissionspectroscopy (ARPES), we measure the superconductinggap and its momentum dependence in the high temperaturesuperconductors Bi$-2$/Sr$-2$/CaCu$-2$/O$-8$/ (Bi2212)and YBa$-2$/Cu$-3$/O$-6.95$/ (Y123). It is found thatumklapp bands due to the incommensurate superlattice inBi2212 may obscure the intrinsic momentum dependence ofthe gap. By taking these into consideration, we find ad- wave-like gap function in Bi2212. We also report anunambiguous observation of the superconducting gap inY123. !14
