Chitosan attracts a lot of interest as an absorption enhancer for the peroral delivery of peptide and protein drugs. Still chitosan's low solubility at intestinal pH values (>7.0) impedes this permeation enhancing effect. Lately a novel chitosan derivative, N-trimethyl chitosan chloride (TMC), has been referred as a potential absorption enhancer of peptide and protein drugs.
