Contact slider is of great potentiality for future head/disk systems in achieving even higher recording density. Thsi paper presents a study on the contact slider vibrations aiming to identify the major control parameters for vibration suppression and robust design. A contact slider model is theoretically analyzed and its basic vibration features are summarized. Close-form analytical solutions are derived and the friction induced vibrations are addressed. A higher order accurate numerical method is also presented for simulating the problem accurately.
