New functions and requirements on stability analysis of modern power systems are discussed. Both rigorous stability margins for disturbed trajectories and stability domains in parameter spaces are in demand respectively for synchronism stability, voltage stability and frequency stability. The significance of introducing concepts on probabilistic stability evaluation, risk assessment, and risk management to maximize all possible schemes are also emphasized. Breakthroughs on nonlinear stability theory are needed in order to estimate the stability beyond the observation period and terminate the simulation as early as possible. Differing from the general observation period and terminate the simulation as early as possible. Differing from the general concept of chaos concerning only bounded dynamics, new concepts are proposed for unbounded chaos and pre-unbounded chaos in this paper.
