Apomorphine as a dopamine agonist has bene shown to be a very potent drug for the treatment of patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. However, its inherent instability, negligible oral bioavailability, short elimination half life( t_1/2=41 mins), narrow therapeutical window and high inter-individual variation complicate its application.~1 Therefore this puts high demands on a delivery system by which the apomorphine input rate into the systemic circulation can be accurately controlled on each individual basis.
