摘要

Due to their homogeneous and continuous characteristics, temporal satellite syntheses allow to follow the evolution of environmental processes associated with global climate change such as the increase in atmospheric CO2; ozone layer depletion; desertification; and global warming, or with short climate cycles such as la Nina and the North Atlantic climate oscillations. We have analyfed the PAL data set (Pathfinder AVHRR land data, NOAA/NASA), which consists of NDVI measurements on a ten-day basis over Canada at a spatial resolution of 8 kilometers from 1981-2000 A method has been developed to estimate the length of the growing season using smoothed NDVI profiles. This parameter allows to map Canada's large ecosystems and to monitor the phenological cycles of vegetation sensitive to climate change, which in turn is quantified using meteorological data.
