摘要

The theoretical basis for the development of the OraVescent~(TM) Drug Delivery System (DDS) is that the CO_2 released from these systems together with additional pH adjustment enhances the absorption of poorly soluble weak bases. This theory was tested by the buccal administration to 12 volunteers of (a) a fentanyl OraVescent~(TM) DDS, (b) a similar tablet without the absorption-enhancing mechanisms and (c) Actiq~(~R), a buccal fentanyl product marketed by Anesta Corporation. The OraVescent~(TM) DDS showed statistically significant absorption enhancement when compared to the other two products.
