Precipitate Observation in a High Strength B610E Plate

Precipitation and microstructure investigation was conducted on a high strength niobium microalloyed steel (Steel-B610E) with analytical transmission electron microscopy including energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS). The result shows that the precipitates of niobium carbonitrides are dispersed in the grain, and as the result of this phenomenon, the steel is strengthened and hardened by the precipitates. The caps formed on the length side of a cuboid are observed and the mechanism is discussed.
