In the present paper, the R&D activities at the State Key Lab of Rolling and Automation (RAL) have been summarized, which has opened up a new route for the development of new generation steels. The development of super steels based on the grain refinement and phase transformation strengthening and their industrialization technologies have been reviewed and the future developing trend was pointed out. Further more, the development of ultra fine-grained double phase, TRIP and CP steels and their service performances were reviewed and the new technologies to manufacture these advanced steels developed at the RAL were thoroughly described and discussed.
