Series of tests with or without hot deformation were carried out on a THERMECMASTER_Z simulator, The measured A_(r3) temperatures showed that they decreased and then increased with increasing Nb content ranging from 0 to 0.038wt.% under both deformed and non-deformed conditions. It is believed that in Nb bearing steels, the Nb solute drag effect that could delay austenite to ferrite transformation, Nb precipitates in austenite which could enhance the transformation kinetics. These factors worked together to make A_(r3) changing with Nb content in a parabolic way. Based on the experimental results, mathematical modeling for the A_(r3) calculation for Nb and C-Mn steels were developed.
