An integrated process modeling system was built by the authors for hot strip rolling, in which thermal, mechanical and metallurgical processes from reheating furnace to coiling of a steel strip had been numerically and successfully coupled together, enabling to predict and analyze microstructure and property evolution during hot rolling. With the help of the powerful tool, the authors assessed and investigated the suitability and accuracy of some well-known recystallization models against practical processing schedules in the real life of hot strip rolling. The suitability and limitation of each emphasized recrystallization model were carefully identified. On the other hand, some recrystallization models were also placed into developed process models to make rolling schedule analysis to optimize product quality. Hence, the numerical analysis is meaningful and valuable for metallurgists in steel plants to better design their rolling processes.
