The microstructure characteristics, mechanical properties and misorientation of automobile beam steels produced by Compact Strip Production (CSP) were investigated by use of optical microscopy (OM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD), etc. It is shown that the final microstructure is mainly of polygonal ferrite and some pearlite, the average ferrite grain size is about 3.7~5.6 μm. At a cooling rate of 15Ks~(-1), some fraction of granular bainite appears in the microstructure and the cementite lamella of automobile beam steels is fractured and transformed into discrete cementite particles, which is distributed throughout the ferrite matrix of the hot strips. The EBSD results show that grain boundaries in ferrite are basically high-angle grain boundaries (HAGBs). The texture components are complicated and without remarkable preferred orientation. The microtexture in final strip is approximated by weak {110}< 001 > orientation, so the hot rolled austenite is deduced to be composed of mostly recrystallized austenite. Refinement strengthening is the predominant strengthening mode.
