High Strength Non-moderate Ferrite/Granular Bainite Steel for Thick Plate

A non-moderate allotriomorphic ferrite/granular bainite (F_(GBA)/Bg) duplex steel was studied for the application of thick plate. The plates of 10-40 mm in thickness have a tensile strength of about 800 to 1000MPa, and elongation larger than 10% after hot rolling and air cooling. The prior compressive deformation of austenite followed by air cooling was simulated by gleeble machine on the grain boundary F_(GBA)/Bg dual phase steel. The results of HRC hardness and CVN experiments show that the prior austenite deformation with air cooling is an effective way to improve both the strength and toughness of this dual phase steel.
