The steel wires of plain low carbon steel Q195 of 2.81-0.863mm in diameter were manufactured by wire drawing from prime commercial steel rebar of 8mm in diameter. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel wires in different diameters were studied in this paper. The microstructure of the wires by drawing at room temperature is vimineous grain as fibril shape from prime equiaxed grain. The fibril length is in direct proportion to square of deformation and the fibril diameter is in inverse proportion to deformation. The yield strength and the ultimate tensile strength of the wires by drawing at room temperature go up in direct proportion to square root of deformation, respectively. And the elongation of the wire comes down. The steel wires have been used as core material for clad copper-steel conductor.
