Ferrite transformation plays an important role in the microstructure evolution process during hot rolling of steels, which determines mechanical properties of the products. Therefore, accurate mathematical models must be developed for better microstructure control. A thermodynamics-based mathematical model, employing the nucleation and growth theories, has been j developed to describe ferrite transformation behavior during hot strip rolling of the Q460 grade steel. In this paper, a new modeling | of the incubation time(τ_f ) for austenite to ferrite transformation was developed. By applying the Scheil's additivity rule, i transformation start temperatures during continuous cooling were calculated, and Cahn's transformation kinetics theory was adopted to calculate ferrite transformation volume fraction during continuous cooling, showing that the models had a good accuracy in predicting the transformation kinetics.
