A laboratory simulation procedure is applied aiming at revealing and investigating structural changes and precipitation features of low carbon Nb-microalloyed steels during thin slab casting and direct rolling (TSDR). Results indicate as follows: 1) Before rolling start thin slab possesses a columnar dendrite structure, while before traditional hot strip rolling (THSR) reheated thick slab shows equiaxed homogeneous structure; 2) The average austenite grain size of TSDR slab is much larger than that of THSR slab; 3) More NbC_xN_y precipitates are found in TSDR slab than in THSR slab.
