Precipitation Strengthening of V(C,N) in High Vanadium Steels

The microstructures and mechanical properties of three high vanadium steels have been investigated. The precipitation of V(C,N) has been studied with TEM. The single-phase ferrite microstructure and high yield strength with the maximal value of 525MPa can be obtained. Interphase precipitation is easy to take place in high vanadium steels and the diameter of V(C,N) is about 4~10nm. The maximal increment caused by V(C,N) precipitates is 244MPa for C3 steel. Carbon is completely combined with vanadium in the experimental steels, and single-phase ferrite and the optimal precipitation strengthening effect is obtained.
