Effects of alloying elements nitrogen and vanadium on γ → α microstructure transformation in microalloyed V-N steels were studied. Experimental evidences was collected for second phase particles VN as preferred nucleation sites of intragranular ferrite(IGF). Phase transformation heat simulation(TMCP) was performed for deformation reduction 30% at 900°C and isothermal holding at 700°C-600°C. Microstructure characteristics transformed γ → α steel were observed with optical microscope. Size, distribution of second phase particles VN and their function on IGF nucleation were observed with transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results show that the deformation in austenite phase region at high temperature, the increase of nitrogen in steel, lower isothermal temperature and longer holding time all increase ferrite formation. IGF formation at initiation period of γ → α transformation is related to the fine and dispersed particles VN.
