In the recent process of industrial development & production of Nb sole microalloyed high strength rebar steel, the relationship of microstructure and mechanical properties has been studied. The most important findings are as follows: 1) In the Nb microalloyed rebar steel 20MnSiNb the bainite component is easy to occur and forms a complex ferrite+bainite+pearlite+martensite structure; 2) The bainite and/or martensite existing in the microstructure has close relationship with the continuous tensile stress-strain curve that lacks marked yield point; 3) Si and Mn contents have to be kept in proper ranges in order to monitor the required microstructure i.e. to reduce the fraction of bainite and/or martensite. 4) Smaller dimension of rebar and fast cooling lead to the sensibility of formation of bainite and martensite. Tempcore water-cooling application has to be carefully controlled in order to get proper microstructure.
