Under the analysis of the feature, moving character and control request of hard roof on long wall working face, mechanical model of hard roof is established. By the way of theoretical derivation, the paper achieves reasonable supporting strength of the breaker props and pressure interval control under the control of hard roof on long wall working face, and put forward theory of Interval Flap Top Slot, that is, when the supporting strength of working face is sure, the distance of hanging roof must be less than a certain length during the period of the periodic roof pressure. The theory provides theoretical foundation for engineering application of coal mining
