Beruk-27 well is located in Beruk Field, Riau, Sumatra, in the southern part of Coastal Plains Pekanbaru (CPP) Block (Figure 1). The first exploration well was drilled in 1985 and the field has been producing since 1988. There are Currently nearly 36 producer wells in this mature oil field; a field with a depleted reservoir, most wells produce with a high water cut. The complex structural setting, poor data availability and high decline rate (above 16% by early 2007, with cumulative production of around 36% of initial reserve by end-2006), has challenged us to work on a better understanding of the reservoir for future development. The current operator, BOB BSP-Pertamina Hulu, is looking for ways to improve oil production and reduce water cut, so the challenges are to identify where the current water zone is as well as to find a bypass and remaining oil in this field.The C/O-RMTE tool was chosen to help solve the challenge by surveying in the Beruk-27 well. Based on RMTE results the recommendation was made to squeeze off all existing open perforations and perform selective re-perforation in three zones (Figure 5). After re-perforating and swap testing of the three intervals, positive results were obtained: a water cut reduction of 70% and an increment of 170 BOPD in production (Table 1). The C/O interpretation was also used to help in designing a new completion and in optimizing the reservoir drainage strategy.
