Based on the experimental results obtained, it can be conclued that the HRT influency the hydrogen, VFAs and ethanol production. The decrease of HRT from 8.0 to 1.0 led to a marked increase in the from 0.27 to 1.03 L.h~(-1).L~(-1), respectively. There was a linear correlation between the v_(H2) and the OLR. In general, the Y_(H2) decrease with HRT and OLR from 3.29 mol H_2.mol glicose~(-1) to 2.40 mol H_2.mol glicose~(-1). The butyric acid concentration increase with HRT and acetic acid decrease with HRT. The hydrogen production and butyric/acetic acid dominating metabolites composition indicates that the heat treated sludge was effective for the enrichment of hydrogen producing bacteria and for the inhibition of methanogenics.
