The LaBarge operation produces sour gas from the Madison Formation with a total acid gas content of 70 %; elemental sulfur is produced in most well bores and is expected to increase as the reservoir depletes. The field is situated in the Bridger Teton National Forest, an area of outstanding environmental interest, and has an expected production life of 50 years. Production therefore poses unique challenges in terms of corrosivity, environmental protection and asset preservation. This paper presents design characteristics of the facilities, materials and corrosion requirements and outlines the research work undertaken in support of the design. Of particular interest are the highly reliable corrosion inhibition program and the design features which allowed this high level of reliability.
