The investigations of vibration control of stay cable mostly focus on the vortex shedding vibrationand wind-rain induced vibration, while the studies in buffeting control attract less attention.However, the buffeting vibrations of stay cables themselves, as well as the vibration of stay cablesdue to the buffeting response of bridge decks always exist. In some extent, the buffeting responseswill reduce the fatigue life of the stay cables severely. Therefore, the buffeting response of staycables should be investigated not only for the research of vibration control of stay cables, but alsofor the fatigue life evaluation of stay cables. In this paper, a simplified cable-girder model wasproposed to analyze the buffeting response of stay cables. For a specified stay cables, the buffetingforces were firstly artificially simulated. The response of stay cables due to the buffeting vibrationof bridge decks was studied based on the database from wind tunnel testing. Then the total buffetingof stay cables were investigated. Considering the damping ratio of varied level, parameter study ofbuffeting response are performed.
