An engineering assessment of seabed ice gouging has been conducted for the AmericanBeaufort, Canadian Beaufort, and American Chukchi Seas. This assessment was limited to compilation ofhistorical public domain ice gouge data and statistics. The influence of data bias, correlation, and regionalice gouge measurement and analysis procedures with respect to statistical characterization andprobabilistic assessment of ice gouge parameters was evaluated. Investigated statistical distributionsincluded the gamma, Weibull, and exponential forms. Early studies recommended the exponentialdistribution for estimation of extreme ice gouge parameters to be used in engineering design of offshorepipelines. This study has concluded that three-parameter Weibull distributions provided better estimatesof extreme ice gouge parameters based on analysis of available data. Correlation analysis was alsoconducted to investigate potential relationships between ice gouge depth and water depth, among otherparameters.
